I attended a few short cookery courses at Limewood with friends recently, the morning sessions are perfect for while the kids are at school!
Iain was the teacher for all three courses, Macarons, Cakes & Pizza – all were great fun. You get paired off but as Limewood were doing a two for one offer most people were already in pairs.
The most impressive results came from the macaron course, each pair made a different flavour and we got to take two of each flavour home plus we got to try a few in class – it was a very impressive boxful!

Our colourful treats!

Iain insisted on us checking the egg whites were stiff enough by the ‘on the head’ test!

- We had a brilliant time!
In the Limewood pizza class we learnt to make a really quick dough with just one rise, a tomato pizza sauce and with a variety of toppings we made two each – one to eat together and one to take home – delicious!
- Iain shows how it’s done
- Lots of toppings to choose from
- Sauce making
- Making pizza sauce
- We promised one of the kids we would throw the dough so this was our proof!
- The finished dish to take away
The cake course taught us how to make Limewood’s signature chocolate cake and I have to say, even though I make a lot of cakes, this is by far the best I’ve ever made. Definitely an adult chocolate fudge cake (too strong a chocolate flavour for kids) it was divine! I’ve made it myself at home and just missed out the ganache topping and piping details.
- A bit of pistachio to finish off
- We got to sample Iain’s version

With all the courses you get to take home a recipe booklet, we got to keep the aprons on the cake and pizza course and you start with pastries and tea and coffee and have a tea break half way through so as always with Limewood, you are well looked after!
Limewood offers full day courses too, these were just some short classes I tried. You can have a look at what is on offer ‘backstage’ at Limewood in Lyndhurst, New Forest on their website https://www.limewoodhotel.co.uk/calendar
